Psalm 139: More than a Verse

God knows me. He knows every part of me. Every thought I’ve had, have, and will have. And the funny thing is, not only does He know me, He knows all of us! It’s so hard for even the strongest believers to grasp their minds around that, so for a teenager going through everything we go through, it’s pretty crazy. At the same time though it’s awesome! We are constantly wishing that someone would understand us or understand what we are going through, and we have that someone, it’s GOD!
Psalm 139 says:
“O Lord, you have searched me and you know me… you perceive my thoughts from afar.”
Not only does He know us, He wants to know us. He has searched us, gone through our thoughts and figured out who we are. Which I guess in the way I worded it sounds kind of creepy but think of it like this, God is a parent, He wants to know everything that’s going on in our lives and He wants to be “in the know,” but unlike some parents, He actually listens and cares and most of all He understands! He’s not like some old dude that doesn't know anything about what is going on in this day and age, He gets it. He understands it all. He knows what cyber-bullying is, He knows all the pressures we face in school and on a day to day basis, He knows about the drama and the anxious thoughts we walk through life with. The thing this, is that a lot of us, similar to the way we do with our parents, don’t want to tell Him. We don’t want Him to know about our thoughts or the struggles we face, we want to be independent and face it on our own. Or maybe we think He won’t understand. We don’t want Him to judge us or say the wrong thing that might make us upset. This is where God makes switch from being a parent to become the perfect being that created us! Our parents are human, they’re imperfect, they won't always know what to say and when to say it. But God is GOD! He's as perfect as perfect can get! He knows exactly what to do and when to do it. He knows what is best for us, even if we don’t think it is. Which again is hard to grasp, I understand, I struggle with it all the time.
The 25th verse of Psalm 139 says:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.”
We have to let God in. He gives us the freedom to reject Him, but in order to be at peace and feel understood we have to tell Him to come into our hearts. We have to let Him search us, know us, test us, and live in us.
Our blog is named Simply 139 because the four of us believe that God knows us, we know that He is shaping us, and we are letting Him live in us. So simply, 139.
XOXO,
